What is this book about?

Rowling's Universe is expanding, and you might notice small inaccuracies. Or perhaps you noticed them a long time ago.

Let's imagine that Harry Potter had a happy childhood and was raised by a university professor. By the age of 11, the young wizard knows how to use rational thinking methods, studies cognitive psychology, and understands the theory of probability.

This book is captivating. It is still about true friends and the fight for justice, with plenty to get excited about: detective elements, incredible adventures, and complex, interesting discussions. But most importantly, the book explains logical thinking methods in simple language, which can be used in real life to expose other people's manipulations.

Harry uses the scientific method to understand magic and master it. His world becomes more logical, and his motivations are clear. This applies to all characters—even Voldemort has his own explanations that readers can understand.

About the author

Eliezer Yudkowsky is an American specialist in artificial intelligence who researches the problems of technological singularity and advocates for the creation of friendly artificial intelligence.

Yudkowsky explores AI designs that are capable of self-understanding, self-modification, and recursive self-improvement, as well as AI architectures that possess a stable and positive motivation structure.

In addition to his research work, Yudkowsky is known for his explanations of complex models in non-academic language accessible to a wide range of readers.

History of creation

Eliezer Yudkowsky believes that the more rational a person is, the easier it is for them to achieve their goals. To help people learn to think rationally, he founded the LessWrong community. The book "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality" was written to further spread and popularize the ideas of rationality. The book was originally published on FanFiction.Net under the authorship of the LessWrong community.

According to Yudkowsky, he read a lot of fan fiction in the Harry Potter universe, and as a result, the plot of his future book arose in his head naturally. In his opinion, J.K. Rowling was "making up the rules of magic as she went along," which presents a unique challenge for a scholarly character. As the book progressed, Yudkowsky set challenges for readers, forcing them to think critically and use rational thinking to understand the plot.

The book was written over five years. During this time, the fanfic gained popularity, thousands of subscribers on Reddit, over 26,000 reviews on FanFiction.Net, and an audiobook created by enthusiastic fans.

Customer reviews

This is real!! I was very hesitant to buy as the seller only had 6 reviews [at time of purchase] but they were great and now I have a physical copy of hpmor!! and it arrived about a month earlier than expected. 100% satisfied and will purchase another copy for the collection at some point.

The customs damaged the delivery box, but the books arrived in excellent condition and were well protected, despite the long distance of delivery, each book was individually wrapped in foil. The printing is professional, the binding is strong. The books open well on the back and can almost lie flat on the table. Despite some rough handling, the first few bindings are still holding up well.

The books arrived exactly as described, wrapped in plastic and obviously never opened. Very good seller. I will gladly buy again.

The books were delivered exactly as described, in heat-shrinkable packaging and apparently never opened. Very good seller. I would buy again.
